Fraser Valley RPG > Science Fiction > Giant Robot campaign

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 11 2014, 08:28 PM
That's right, I am back for a limited time only to run a game I have been thinking about for a long time.

Genre: Giant Robots (think anime styled mecha)
System: Warhammer Fantasy Role Play % system modded for this game.
Players: 3-4max
Occurrence: Weekly, Wednesday @ 6:30 in Mission.
Starting: Wednesday the 15th for character and setting creation
Runtime: 3 Months estimated.

The deal with this game is that it should be cool and fun, and since everyone has their own ideas about the genre we are going to hash out the particulars together during setting creation. Think about how the mecha are powered, where they came from, what sort of political situation you want to start with. Are there aliens? Is it even on Earth? Will we go to space? All these questions must be answered collectively and in doing so we will all be on the same page.

Notes on gameplay:
Two profiles: Pilot Profile and Mecha Profile
Weapon Skill, Ballistic Skill and Agility transfer from the Pilot for use with the mecha but are limited by the mecha's listed max.
Skills: Pilot Specific, pretty much all non-combat.
Talents: Mixed between Pilot Talents and Mecha traits, often won't transfer to use with Mecha
Equipment: Mostly Mecha-based. Built in weapons require energy and reduce armour strength.
Movement: Still up in the air, we'll talk.

Let me know here or by PM if you're interested.

J

Totally in. But you probably could have guessed that.
Sadly I got the flu, so here's hoping I am better by Wednesday.

Given how things tend to derail IRL, maybe it would be prudent to try to get some (though not all) of the details ironed out here?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 11 2014, 10:05 PM
True, getting you guys to task is like herding cats.

I'll write up the survey here and then everyone can have more time to think about it, and I'll get a few basic Mecha profiles ready, are there typically the standard 4 archetypes: Long Range, Brute Force, Fast Recon, and Comm/Support? Like Archer, Fighter, Thief, and Mage.

Posted by: trick Jan 13 2014, 06:07 PM
I'm interested. I'll see if I can carpool with Chronocide.

Posted by: Greg Jan 13 2014, 09:09 PM
I'm in, if there is a spot open.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 14 2014, 05:22 PM
So I am well enough that I will be coming tomorrow Jan 15.
I will be leaving at 6:00pm, if you want a ride be here.

What about food?
Should we order in Chinese; or are we all going to fend for ourselves beforehand?

Posted by: Greg Jan 14 2014, 07:11 PM
I like the idea of chinese food. 2014 has been off to a great start in terms of climbing out of the pit that was 2013, so I can contribute to that.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 14 2014, 07:34 PM
i'm not off till 6, so i guess i'll be a bit late to the party.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 14 2014, 11:15 PM
That's it, the four members of the fellowship. I'll be working on the survey and Mecha/character sheets tonight. Chinese sounds good. I don't know a good local place in Mission.

Posted by: trick Jan 15 2014, 11:39 AM
We could pick up food in Abby and drive it to mission. That would require a little organization though.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 16 2014, 10:04 PM
So what are we going to call the robots?

Posted by: Greg Jan 17 2014, 07:33 AM
Depends on culture and origin. Can't remember for sure, but I think we went for a techbological development origin, making for a name that would be related to their purpose. On the other hand various other things such as how extravegant the nobility is, and what language group our little country belongs to.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 17 2014, 12:35 PM
Let's see standards are.

A.M.W.S. (Assault Maneuver Weapon System, pronounced "aims")
Arm Slaves
Armours
Gears
Heavy Frames
Jagers
Knights
Mobile suits

Questions about how humanoid they look also matter
If they come in a wide variety of appearances they might need to distinguish.
eg in Gundam they have mobile weapons;humanoid ones are mobile suits, and the others are mobile armours (I believe).

Then there is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UpxsrlLbpU the closest thing we have today.

I tried thinking of a good Acronym, but was unsuccessful.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 20 2014, 01:17 AM
I'm open to having all types dependent on use of course. I've always like the practical term "frame", especially considering that in meta knowledge what we are using as a template, ie the mecha profile sheet, could be called a frame too.

I'll suggest:
LSF - Light Scout frame
MAF - Medium Asault frame
HBF - Heavy Battle frame etc.

So the light, medium, and heavy would stay constant as well as the frame aspect, but the role could be switched out to whatever the mecha is intended for. Of course I think each culture/power would have a different way of going about this, and I like the idea of actually naming the machines too.

This is what you guys are likely going to start in:
LSF -Rand mkIII

Also I want to institute a special rule for combat scenarios, each of you are to select a theme song, no more than 6 minutes long, that you feel will fit your character and his fighting style. Each other participant in any battle will also have a theme song, and depending on which song is playing on a random loop that character will have a certain bonus.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 20 2014, 02:33 AM
P.O.D. - Boom is one i'm thinking of, but i'll think some more on it.

Posted by: Greg Jan 20 2014, 10:24 AM
I might just steal Sami's theme from Advance Wars. That was some of the best noise I ever heard out of a 32 bit gaming device.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 20 2014, 12:31 PM
Just for clarification.

The Light, Medium, Heavy Frame, would have more to do with power output and armaments then actual size or mass right?

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 20 2014, 01:07 PM
Currently going with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joNmYWYFZQg for theme song.

Posted by: Greg Jan 20 2014, 08:09 PM
No objections to that here. FF6 was my favorite RPG from its era.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 20 2014, 09:32 PM
I think that due to the nature of heavy armour + more armaments the frame would be heavier as well. Don't you think?

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 20 2014, 10:04 PM
Ideally not, the square cube law and all.
But I don't want to get into the science of it it's more of a gameplay setting thing.
I just really don't want to see it be a now you have a better mech; it's bigger taller. With exceptions of a few mechs that are supposed to be exceptional in a given show mechs tend to all be about the same size.
It also doesn't feel likely that the military would be likely to take us, who they have spent lots of money training in LSFs, and then tell us now you are piloting HBFs if there was a large difference between them.

Posted by: Greg Jan 21 2014, 01:14 AM
I agree with Chrono's sentiments. It would make sense to have people trained for the medium level of Mech and then specialize from there. It would be good to potentially see Light Mechs as something that an experienced pilot would actually use rather than just the first in a line of stepping stones to the biggest, heaviest, most gun-laden pile of metal on the continent.

For light mechs, think of them as a specialization rather than a tiny mech. You want something that can run, or possibly even fly, circles around other mechs. While you would have an emphasis on being lightweight, you'd need to give it at least a medium range weapon with which to defend itself. Instead of packing heavier weapons, a Light mech would ideally make use of differing suites of utility gear such as mines, cloaking devices, hacking tools, and advanced recon and communications equipment.

A LSF would also be the go-to choice for a sniper, if you focus most of the load capacity on carrying a high quality long range weapon. A Scout mech would allow a sniper the extra time and maneuverability to set up a good position, again while not making himself an excessively big target.

MAFs should be the standard class that would be trained with initially, though I could see training with cheaper MAF's with a fairly generic suite of weapons initially, and then having the higher quality MAF's going into closer range combat.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 21 2014, 09:24 AM
I want to clarify I don't have issue with the HBF > MAF > LSF. I only have a problem with that if they are vastly different in size or operation. From an economic standpoint it makes sense to have cheaper ones that are just not as good. I only have an issue with the gradient if the mechs themselves are very different, in size or operation, which is why I envisioned power output as being the biggest difference, a bigger engine, makes the mech better no matter what it's role.

Posted by: Greg Jan 21 2014, 09:46 PM
Ah. Okay. My argument was more that a light mech should still be valid as an option on the battlefield. I remember from my days of playing the Mechassault games for the Xbox that you could destroy mech classes much heavier than your own using a tiny scout mech by outmaneuvering them.

Our rpg universe is free to diverge from this, of course, but I like it as a bit of a balancing mechanic.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 22 2014, 12:06 AM
and my two cents is of course going to be "Screw Science, I have a mecha."

Though I've never really thought about stuff like this before...

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 22 2014, 02:38 AM
There won't be a big discrepancy in size, not enough to make it matter if these things were drawn out to scale. I think weight would be the one factor I am ok with having variation in. Thicker armour = more weight, but bigger powerplant = "it doesn't matter". As for size I think aside from potential drones being much smaller, and mobile artillery frames being much larger, the mechs with single pilots will all be about the same size. I think there would definitely be a minimum size for the sorts of systems required to run one of these things.

Anyway, you are all starting in identical frames. And could someone bring drinks (non-pop is ok) and could someone also bring a good range of pencil crayons? My set has only 6 usable colours.

We'll eat chili, do character and party creation, and then start in on the first session I have mapped out.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 23 2014, 12:40 AM
okay, so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLgPNilXHM4 is the song i want.

Disturbed - Haunted

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 23 2014, 12:02 PM
Since apparently we are looking for more of a battle theme than a character theme. I guess I will change to this.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 23 2014, 10:18 PM
Also want to say that I am really enjoying this so far. I was really happy to see some voluntary PC interaction that wasn't just PC's trying to achieve their goals but actually behaving like people.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 24 2014, 06:46 PM
well, apparently they build halfway decent mechs, so that's a plus

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 26 2014, 06:21 PM
I like both those songs guys, We'll see how they fit your characters as we go on. Just now sitting down to hash out the Pilot Profile sheets... Wish me luck!

Foodening

So what shall we do about food?
http://www.missionakasaka.com/menu-7.html
Has some decent part trays.

Pizza is also an option as long as they have a pizza with a gluten free crust.

Another option is for us to each bring a dish. I could bring a Greek salad.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 26 2014, 11:15 PM
Skill changes so far:

Evaluate -> Analyze (more of a situational skill now than mercantile)
Haggle -> Negotiate (gets the setting feel right)
Row, Ride, Swim and Run -> Athletics (one skill to rule them all)
Channeling -> Hacking
Animal Charm, Animal Handling, and Animal Care -> Animal Training
Follow Trail -> Tracking
Trade -> Craft -> Technical Knowledge
Navigation -> Orienteering
Hypnotism, Lip Reading, Sail, Sleight of Hand, Ventriloquism -> Special Skills (not that these wouldn't be useful, but I don't want to have a line for each of them if nobody takes them, each is its own skill)
Silent Move + Shadowing -> Stealth (advanced skill)

Added: Recollection(basic skill)

Trick: What is your Theme Song?
Any of those three options for food work for me.

And how does this look for the standard ejection pod survival pack (for the part of the Confederacy that you are in at least)

-Ejection Pod Emergency Survival Pack: Flare Gun w/ 3 shots, 1 Red + 1 Green Smoke Marker Flares, Emergency 2-way Radio, 2 Weeks Jungle Rations, Canteen, Mess Kit, Fire Steel, Machete, Topographical Maps, Compass, Spade, Tent, Bed roll, 50’ Climbing Rope, MKL5 Light Carbine

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 27 2014, 01:00 AM
seems a little overkill on the 2 weeks jungle rations.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 27 2014, 08:19 AM
Even though you will be in trainers at the beginning I think the packs are standard. You should never have to actually eject out of the trainer anyway, but in the extreme situation where you would, you might need that many rations, or your frame just overheated and blew up.

I think this can be my song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR05zibDwjk

Just kidding. I just realize that my song of choice is over 9min, so I'll either have to do some editing or choose something else.

I was worried with that boy scout song...

As long as you bring a final selection tomorrow Greg I am fine.

Food thoughts? I'm fine with whatever you guys decide, but perhaps order it to pick i up on your way out. Jacelyn and I were talking about it too, and because we are saving for our trip in the summer I don't always want to dish out 10+ $$ each week. She offered to help do food prep and have a rotating list of 4 meals if you guys don't mind? They'd probably weigh in at about $5 each on I'd say. Any preferences? We want easy to make things.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 28 2014, 08:52 PM
I'm having a little difficulty with your skill list Greg, there are asterisks and triangles, I'm not sure what means what, and a few of your choices have been consolidated. So I'll do what I know by the triangles, and then add whatever asterisks I can afford.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 28 2014, 09:31 PM
Skill holes for the squad are: Analyze, Disguise, Gamble, Negotiate, Recollection, Hacking, Performer, Pick Lock, Prepare Poison, Torture, and any special skills.

I will possibly allow additional skills before we start to cover the most problematic holes in the advanced skills list, as they can't be used unskilled.

Posted by: Greg Jan 29 2014, 10:45 AM
Sorry. Spots with both numbers and arrows assigned have been raised by the number of arrows beside them. skills with arrows, but no number value haven't recieved any training. Stars ( I think) denote a talent bonus in certain conditions. I'm guessing there will be a few points freed up now that some of the skills have been consolidated.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 3 2014, 11:24 PM
Supper this week will be Russian Meatballs over rice. I'm estimating that it will cost about $4 each, perhaps.

I will allow each of you to chose a different skill from the list of 'missed' skills @ 1 rank free. Each of you will also get to increase two different attributes by 2. I'm doing this instead of the standard +5 since there are no class limiters in place and I want growth to be more gradual and even.

And here's the rundown of what you know about the Chavez Ranger Training Compound.

CO: General Lee Te Giang

Dean: Colonel Rynold Davis

Instructors: Major Sophia Arnold - Tactics & Application 101, Sharpshooting 201 + 301, Basic Weapons Training level 1-5, Wave and Line of Sight Coordination 101 + 201.

Major Titus Herrera - Hacking & Counter-Hacking 101, Advanced Sims 101, Special Sims 201, Basic Frame Circuitry 201, System Overrides and Weaknesses 301.

Lieutenant Amanda Vega (Counselor) - Emotional Control & Interfacing 101, Sync-detachment Therapy(as needed), Advanced Torture Resistance Techniques 301.

Second Lieutenant Ross Biggs - Tactical Weapons Application 101, Frame Identification 101, Emergency Systems and Their Backups 201.

Any questions?

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 4 2014, 02:18 AM
how old and/or attractive is Amanda Vega?

And are we all going to die?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 4 2014, 08:02 AM
Amanda is early thirties and quite attractive, if you like the hair pulled back high, glasses, pencil skirt, and long legs. She looks like a mildly deadly secretary.

Your lives are in your own hands, but I would prefer that you didn't die.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 9 2014, 02:37 PM
is her hair in a ponytail or a bun?

Serious talk now, what's going on for the food situation for next session?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 10 2014, 10:57 AM
How does everyone feel about Lettuce Wraps? We'll have beef and turkey, turkey is like 2x the price though.

Posted by: Chronocide Feb 10 2014, 12:51 PM
Food sounds fine with me. I'm not a huge Turkey fan so I am indifferent on that count.

I don't think the hair style is going to matter redeadlink; seams like Jimbo is killing off all the skirts.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 10 2014, 05:36 PM
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigNo

back to the food issue, i'm not a fan of lettuce wraps, but i'll deal with it.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 10 2014, 06:55 PM
Why ever not?!

The backup is tacos/burritos. I can do that instead.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 10 2014, 10:25 PM
no need to pander to me. i'll go with whatever.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 12 2014, 01:38 AM
Be prepared to get flatulent!

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 12 2014, 10:46 AM
can't be worse than what that pizza did to me.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 13 2014, 12:15 AM
don't forget about the new mech sheet for my character, Jimbo.

Everyone else, good session.

Hows about Scalloped potatoes and farmer sausage?

Plus also I am busy with care group tomorrow and have been swamped with the Chima build all weekend, so please remind me about character sheets on Tuesday, repeatedly.

Thanks

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 17 2014, 10:52 AM

Is next session gonna be a combat session?

Don't forget about character sheets.
The food sounds awesome

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Feb 19 2014, 01:55 AM
In process, but I just can't seem to remember the full list of basic skills which I need to add to the character sheets.

The hijacked Curupira XS is done though.
I also can't find Trick's or Greg's character sheets, so if you guys brought those home I'll modify them when you get here, if not then I can figure the upgrades with you from the originals.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 20 2014, 04:26 PM
So we can have the next session at my place.

i'll give people addresses via text or something.

Posted by: trick Feb 26 2014, 07:25 AM
I haven't gotten an address yet.

Posted by: Chronocide Feb 26 2014, 09:07 AM
I have got one, and I wont leave without you this time, it's all good.
Everyone is meeting at my place, we can figure things out driving wise then.

Think about what you want for pizza now though. If we order it when we leave it will be ready for pickup when we get to Redeadlink's place.

Posted by: redeadlink Feb 26 2014, 12:02 PM
i don't have your phone number, trick. that's why i didn't give you the address.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 3 2014, 08:12 AM
Redead, are you able to come out this way yet, or is it still best if we do it at your place?

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 3 2014, 01:45 PM
i should be able to make it out there.

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 4 2014, 09:29 AM
Found the quick rules sheet for WH.

OK well I have no plan for food, and no time to make it. Is everyone ok with pizza again or should we try something new?

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 4 2014, 10:33 PM
I don't care what we do, I just don't want to spend 30 minutes deciding again.
But pizza is probably easiest, so lets decide what we want and then we can pick it up from Panago on our way in.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 5 2014, 08:32 AM
Everybody gets half of a large. Pick a flavour. Trade pieces if you'd like.

I want a ckicken club, the one with tomato's on it.

Posted by: trick Mar 5 2014, 10:24 AM
I'll do chicken club too.

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 5 2014, 11:00 AM
so one chicken club.

I'll take half a New York Deli.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 6 2014, 11:55 PM
Hey Guys, make alternate plans for Wednesday the 12th. I want a break from this right now. I need to evaluate some things.

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 7 2014, 02:39 AM
that's cool. i have a few projects i need to work on that'll probably last longer than this weekend before i finish them.

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 10 2014, 09:19 PM
So with no session this week.
Anyone want to come for a walk up the Sumas Grind?
It's supposed to be Sunny on Wednesday.
We would leave as early as we can, and then we can make Nachos for a late supper when we get back.

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 11 2014, 07:05 PM
unfortunately i already have plans for wednesday. but normally i'd be up for that.

Posted by: trick Mar 11 2014, 11:41 PM
I'm game, I might be a little slow though.

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 16 2014, 09:35 PM
so what's the plan for next session?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 18 2014, 05:04 PM
session tomorrow. We are having spaghetti and meatballs. Chrono, do you want to try it with vermicelli or plain ol rice? Would people be interested in doing sukiyaki next week? It's a bit more on the pricey end, but I think split 5 ways it would come to equal or less than pizza still.

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 18 2014, 05:55 PM
Best to go with plain old rice (I think I already ate some wheat this week by accident)

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 19 2014, 11:39 PM
so i'm naming my mech Jabali, spanish for boar.

paint scheme along those lines.

Posted by: trick Mar 20 2014, 09:47 AM
By the way Jimbo, I believe I owe you $5 for last night.

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 20 2014, 06:24 PM
Mech name: Sleipnir
Drone names: Hugin & Munin

If that is acceptable.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 22 2014, 01:56 AM
I don't think it's quite $5 Trick, but I'll do the math soon and post it here, along with how much Sukiyaki will cost.

Boar it is.

I think that's fine Chrono, but now I can't make that awesome 6 legged mech that I was planning... sad.gif

Posted by: redeadlink Mar 22 2014, 07:33 PM
i thought sleipnir was 8 legged?

Posted by: Greg Mar 23 2014, 01:57 PM
Mech Name: Jove
Color: Dark Cobalt.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 25 2014, 08:47 PM
6 legs plus 2 arms....
So. Spaghetti ran us each about $4.

And Shabu Shabu looks to be pretty spot on $9 per person split 5 ways. Well it's closer to $10 a person, but there will be leftover bok choi and maybe some meat. So $9!

Posted by: trick Mar 26 2014, 08:36 AM
Name: Heavy Metal
Color: Dirty orange & dark green stripes.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 1 2014, 07:00 PM
So I just got curb-stomped by work today, just woke up from my recovery nap here, 103 calls today, likely no improvement tomorrow. What that does is take away any bit of energy I have for planning and running a session. But I still have the evening free and I still want to hang out with all of you and eat chilli.

So how about games night at my place? I have a pirate game I've wanted to try out for a while (was cheap so could be hit or miss) and I think if Chrono brings that Japanese journey game that'd be cool if it fits 5 players. And I'd like to play Smallworld or Carcassonne too. I don't often get to play those with 5. Does this work? Same bat time, same bat channel.

Posted by: trick Apr 1 2014, 07:04 PM
Sounds good to me.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 8 2014, 11:11 PM
Just so it's clear, this session will happen on Thursday instead of Wednesday. Thanks to all of you for being accommodating.

Does Pulled Pork sound tasty for everyone?

Posted by: trick Apr 9 2014, 07:22 AM
I have some leftover apple pie that I'm planning to bring.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 9 2014, 10:07 PM
Cool Beans, Unfortunately Redeadlink has a family dinner that has him engaged so it will be a regular games night, I hope Chrono told you trick. I would like to try some two player games of PotCS, which if I am correct should run pretty quick once we pick fleets.

Posted by: redeadlink Apr 13 2014, 09:11 PM
i'm sorry, guys.

i hope that if anyone shoots me in the back or betrays me in any other way that it'll be non-lethal.

Don't worry redeadlink; real friends will stab you in the front.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 15 2014, 07:10 AM
Session Wednesday as normal. What do you guys think of having Jjajangmyeon?

Posted by: redeadlink Apr 15 2014, 07:08 PM
i still don't know what that is.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 15 2014, 11:52 PM
um... google.

Posted by: Chronocide Apr 20 2014, 08:06 PM
Advance notice.
On April 30th Abbotsford Unity Challenge http://www.abbotsfordunity.ca/
which I would rather like to go to. Giving as much notice as possible so that whatever needs to happen can happen.

Posted by: trick Apr 21 2014, 09:48 PM
I would be happy with rescheduling to the tuesday or thursday (like Chrono, I am talking about next week, not this week).

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 22 2014, 07:28 AM
sure. Thursday works better for me. Anyone else?

Posted by: Greg Apr 22 2014, 08:14 AM
Looking at next week? Sure.

Posted by: redeadlink Apr 23 2014, 07:28 PM
Any day works for me except Fridays

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 24 2014, 05:26 PM
I think I would like to change the day to Thursday permanently if that's alright with everyone? Jacelyn isn't in class anymore, so that reason for choosing Wednesdays is out. Lmk

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Apr 30 2014, 07:13 AM
I have no plans for supper tomorrow. Should we order something? Recently food prep has often taken precedence over session prep.

Posted by: redeadlink Apr 30 2014, 05:52 PM
either way i'm going to owe someone money.

Posted by: Chronocide May 5 2014, 08:05 PM
It's going to be at my place, but are we playing on Wed or Thur?

Posted by: trick May 6 2014, 07:56 AM
My understanding was that it was Thursday, but either can work for me.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 7 2014, 12:04 AM
It is Thursday. At your place correct. Everyone bring their steaks. I will bring potatoes for mashing. Someone call drinks, someone call dessert, and if anyone likes call vegetables.

Posted by: Chronocide May 7 2014, 11:49 AM
I'm making a Greek salad.

Posted by: trick May 7 2014, 03:13 PM
I call desert.

Posted by: redeadlink May 7 2014, 07:12 PM
I can bring drinks. Does a 2L of Coke Zero and root beer each sound alright?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 12 2014, 12:24 AM
I will do a stir-fry this Thursday. Does anyone object to this plan? Would beef or chicken be preferred?

Also there is a possibility of me being free on Friday evening. Would anyone be interested in watching a movie that night? I will confirm yet.

Posted by: redeadlink May 12 2014, 01:46 AM
i have no objection to the food plan. i'm not sure about friday though. I should be able to make it.

Posted by: trick May 13 2014, 01:27 PM
Jimbo: I like stir-fries, especially with rice. Any meat is good, but veggies are the best. I think redeadlink might contend with me on that though.

Everyone else: Dorothy and I are going to go on a hike up Elk Mountain after work tomorrow since there's no gaming on that day. You guys are welcome to join. Meetup is at 6pm at my place, bring food & water and a jacket, also a headlamp if you have one.

Posted by: Chronocide May 13 2014, 04:14 PM
Stir-Fry: Good.
Movie Friday: Good
Elk Mountain: This is sounds like more than a casual hike. What is the elevation change and approximate round trip travel time for an octogenarian with a slight limp?
Also I have a whole bunch of fresh tomatoes I can bring if James know how to fry tomatoes.

Posted by: trick May 13 2014, 05:20 PM
Elk mountain is pretty casual. It's about twice the length of the so-called Abby Grind, and most of the trail a fair bit easier. The Internet tells me to expect 4 hours car-to-car and 674 m of elevation. There might be some snow further up and if things become too difficult we will turn around.

Edit: also, I like the movie Friday idea.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 14 2014, 07:25 AM
I don't particularly know how to fry tomatos, I am assuming in a frying pan with heat for a start.

Can't do Elk mtn. today unfortunately. It took a friend and I 2 hours to the top in January with snow and tents and food etc. And I took a few naps on the path on the way. No lie.

Friday might not be a go yet. There is a lot of garden work I need to do. I'll know after this evening.

Posted by: Chronocide May 14 2014, 04:02 PM
Well I can bring some tomatoes if you want them.

Posted by: redeadlink May 14 2014, 07:33 PM
QUOTE (trick @ May 13 2014, 02:27 PM)
Jimbo: I like stir-fries, especially with rice. Any meat is good, but veggies are the best. I think redeadlink might contend with me on that though.

i like raw veggies... and i like cooked asparagus and broccoli.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 14 2014, 11:44 PM
There is broccoli.

Also, Friday is a go and Chrono has agreed to host to save everybody everything. Any movie preferences?

Posted by: Chronocide May 26 2014, 07:26 AM
So this Thursday I ended up double booked.
If we can move it great, if not, then I will come later, skipping the dinner portion.

Posted by: redeadlink May 26 2014, 08:10 PM
for budgetary reasons, i'd prefer friday if that's possible. if not, i'll work with what i've got.

Posted by: trick May 27 2014, 06:08 AM
I'm busy Friday.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 27 2014, 10:51 PM
I don't want to cramp your style Chrono. If you are going to be late AND miss some of your other plans there is no point in you messing up both. If you need we can hold off until next week. I want to go see Xmen sometime anyway and Wednesday doesn't work for me for RPG.

Posted by: Greg May 28 2014, 08:35 AM
Okay, so I guess we'll do X-men tomorrow? Cool. I know Aggregate and my sister were also wanting to watch it with me, so I'll see if they are able to come too.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 28 2014, 05:57 PM
The time tomorrow that best works for chrono is 9:30 at mission. He can only be available at 8:30. So we could do a meal at my place still and a game perhaps and meet him there. Or we could just all meet at 9:30. What do you think? 9:30 is not 3D. We'd have to wait until 10 for that.

Posted by: redeadlink May 28 2014, 06:25 PM
either way works for me

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 28 2014, 08:24 PM
Well, Jacelyn is using the kitchen cause she's out on Friday, so we can't really do anything for food here anymore. I'll check my free passes to see if they work for these shows.
Ok I've got 6 tickets for the show for the price of three! I might have a friend coming too, so if he does I'd like to give him the cheap ticket. The rest of you get a $5.50 ticket. As long as Trick is coming too??

Posted by: trick May 28 2014, 08:41 PM
Yes, I'll be coming with Dorothy, if that's okay.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 28 2014, 09:50 PM
That is indeed, especially because Redeadlink just bailed for "familial bs".

It's the 9:30 show and if anyone would like to meet for sushi beforehand I want to go to Sushi te and try their Japanese chirashi, which looked amazing when I saw it last week.

Also, my friend can't make it so that means there is an extra ticket if Greg wants to confirm that Aggregate will take it... Or else ill call up my brother in law.

Six tickets: Me, Chronocide, Greg, Trick, Dorothy and...

Posted by: trick May 29 2014, 01:05 PM
I think Dorothy and I would be up for sushi. What time would we meet?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur May 29 2014, 03:25 PM
Let's do it at 7:00, plenty of time for sitting down and eating before the movie, and not too late that we'll be starving. Do you know where Sushi Te is?

Posted by: trick May 29 2014, 04:45 PM
Yeah, I've been there before.

Posted by: redeadlink May 29 2014, 11:31 PM
"familial bs" was maybe the wrong term, but it was how i felt when i got the call.

Posted by: Chronocide May 30 2014, 11:24 AM
Lord I am getting old, the whole drive home was a struggle and sweet unconsciousness came quickly when I got to the bed. It's still hard for me to believe that midnight is now late. sad.gif

Posted by: trick Jun 4 2014, 08:06 AM
We are Giant Roboting tomorrow, I assume? Is it barbequing at our place?

Posted by: redeadlink Jun 4 2014, 06:03 PM
as far as i know, we are having burgers at trick and chrono's place.

Posted by: trick Jun 4 2014, 06:11 PM
Cool, I'll pick up some cheese and buns tomorrow.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jun 12 2014, 01:38 AM
Redeadlink is working the late shift today so he'll only show up around 8:30. The rest of you guys can come a little later if that suits, but food is good to eat at the normal time. It's Farmer sausage and scalloped potatoes. We could play a round of Dominion or two if Chrono is so inclined to bring it along.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jun 19 2014, 12:36 AM
Ham and Bean soup tomorrow. I might be a little later home than usual, so please only show up after 6:45.

Posted by: Greg Jun 20 2014, 07:00 PM
Just thought I'd let everyone know I fractured my ankle, and won't be able to work for about six weeks. I may at some point during my time off go and spend some time away from home on some sort of light vacation. I'll let you know if I'll be missing a session.

Posted by: redeadlink Jun 20 2014, 07:45 PM
well, that's unfortunate. hope it heals fast.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jun 23 2014, 09:49 PM
I hope you get better quickly Greg. Sucks to be out of work, and the subsequent money it affords you.

I have an announcement about this week's session. It will not happen. Last week it turned out that Jacelyn and I went 7 days straight without spending quality one on one time together. Not that the RPG was the cause of that at all, but for this week with her studying for her final, and me building the Lego display for July short notice it is the easiest thing to postpone to get an evening together to hang out. So we will reconvene in July on the 3rd for the next robot session.

Incidentally we stopped by that new games shop in downtown Abby on Sunday and they are doing open board games nights on Thursdays. So I would recommend you guys who are still available head down and check that out and then report back to the rest of us and maybe we could make that a regular activity.

Posted by: Chronocide Jun 23 2014, 10:07 PM
A. Which board games shop? What time?
B. Alan will be out of town next week.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jun 25 2014, 07:20 AM
Downtown Abbotsford, the shop just opened: Nerd Haven, 33723 Essendene Ave.

http://www.nerdhavengames.com/

That means next week I'll have to join you guys for games at the shop.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 2 2014, 09:57 PM
Is anyone up for trying out the games shop tomorrow night? Are you very mobile Greg? Let me know what you think. Giant robots will return to Thursdays next week.

Posted by: Greg Jul 3 2014, 07:48 AM
I'm game. My plan for today was pretty much to go buy some paint for my dad and then park my butt there for the rest of the day.

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 3 2014, 08:40 AM
Sure I'd be in.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 9 2014, 10:13 PM
Hooray! Session at my place tomorrow once again. Hopefully we will get through this last bit and be able to move on to the third arc.

Pork steak and rice with green beans for supper.

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 14 2014, 10:25 AM
Session is going to be at my parents place tomorrow.

I have some chores I need to do there, and I don't want those cutting into play time so I will be leaving directly. Text me for the address if you need it.

Posted by: trick Jul 14 2014, 10:32 AM
I misplaced my cell phone, so just a warning that contacting me that way isn't very reliable. Email still works fine though.

redeadlink: I had been under the impression that you normally would be getting to my place around 6. I found out that that's when you get off work. So, I guess ideally you'll get to my place around 6:15, but if we don't hear anything from you we'll wait until 6:30. If you think there's a chance you'll be later than that, please send Greg a message telling him that you might be late, but you'll be carpooling with us anyway. Also, if you're just going to to straight to James' house, send Greg a message about that too, so we don't wait for you.

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 14 2014, 10:32 AM
Also to make things clear.
Jimbo will probably be arriving on his own, you other three... Make sure you know how you are getting there! if you need to contact me email will be the only way as I won't have cell reception.
Though if you do need to contact me, for anything other than the address, you are probably doing it wrong cause I will have nothing to do with you getting there.

In summary:
Figure out how you are getting here, and make sure any party's you may be relying on also know.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 22 2014, 07:10 AM
Important Announcement!

Since we are right between the second and third arc of the storyline (the final one) and since I am going away relatively soon I have decided to postpone all sessions until my return. Tentatively that means our next session will be September 4th. This is because we are also going away this weekend and then next weekend will be busy with packing and getting last minute stuff together and planning a session and a meal each week takes a goodly chunk of my time. It will also prevent a long gap mid-arc.

I'll try to text all of you this info as well, but post here if you have read it.

Posted by: trick Jul 22 2014, 08:09 AM
Thanks for the announcement. I will miss the games and the food.

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 22 2014, 09:57 AM
message received.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 23 2014, 12:36 AM
I did have the thought that we could still do dinner and games together Thursday evening. I don't know if everyone's budget allows, but I'd love to go for all you can eat sushi, or just good sushi that night and then maybe hit up nerd haven with some board games. Anyone in?

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 23 2014, 07:07 AM
Yeah I'd be in for that.

Posted by: Greg Jul 23 2014, 04:40 PM
That should work for me. I'll bring the Fellowship Card game I got last month. So far it has been a hit with everyone who had played it, and it's shaping up to be the best of my collection.

Posted by: trick Jul 23 2014, 05:03 PM
I'm definitely interested in the food part. I'm not sure about the games

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 23 2014, 05:37 PM
We could just do games at Chrono's place if that suits everyone better. If it's not that then I'd prefer the game shop to add to the community aspect of the whole thing.

Posted by: redeadlink Jul 23 2014, 06:41 PM
i'll pass on this one, due to budgetary concerns and some personal stuff i have to deal with.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jul 23 2014, 11:56 PM
OK then, I'll meet whoever is in at Chrono's place after work. Say 6:00 if that's OK?

Posted by: Chronocide Jul 24 2014, 07:18 AM
Sounds splendid

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Sep 7 2014, 11:17 PM
If people can make it I was thinking about starting our third and final arc this coming Wednesday. Sorry for the short notice.

Redead works late shifts now so we'd start at 7:30 and you would need to arrive pre-fed. That will also give me more time to dedicate to planning the sessions as I tended to procrastinate on both tasks. Let me know yea or nay.

Posted by: trick Sep 8 2014, 09:17 AM
Could this be done on Thursday? I think Greg and Aggregate are planning to do an rpg on Wednesday.

Posted by: Greg Sep 8 2014, 06:35 PM
I second Trick's request.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Sep 8 2014, 08:44 PM
No can do. With Redead's shifts it's either Wednesday or Friday, and I don't do Friday RPGs anymore. Is it going to be an ongoing campaign or a one shot? If the latter then I don't mind putting this back a week. It'll give me more time to work on the Lego builds for the train show coming up.

Posted by: redeadlink Sep 8 2014, 09:05 PM
i can't do mondays or thursdays.

what about tuesday? or is that not an option either?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Sep 9 2014, 07:32 AM
Not today. But perhaps next week if Greg's is ongoing. We'll have to start later though.

Posted by: Chronocide Sep 13 2014, 04:55 PM
So hate to be the proverbial wrench, but Mondays and Tuesdays wont work for me in the future.
This coming Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th will though.

Posted by: redeadlink Sep 13 2014, 06:44 PM
Read wrench as wench for some reason...

So Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday are the only weekdays that work for me. Weekends are free as a general rule though

Posted by: trick Sep 15 2014, 01:44 PM
Well, I think we should meet this Tuesday and then we can figure things out then.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Sep 16 2014, 12:32 AM
I would agree with you Trick, but for the fact that I have already made a decision. The leader of our Lego club has gone on indefinite hiatus leaving me and the other member of the executive in charge of everything where before we had very little say. This is a big positive for us. But we have our biggest event of the year coming up in a month and due to lack of leadership we are only now getting rolling. I have decided, with my wife's full approval, to hold off on finishing up the robots campaign until after the show. The stress level would be too high for me and I'd get grumpy, and you guys would have a lower quality game than I would want to give you.

I would like to start up again for the full final swing in the last week of October. We will figure out days when we get closer to that time.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Oct 28 2014, 09:27 PM
So this being the last week of October has caught me unawares. I hear that Wednesday is back on the market, so I would like to tentatively suggest next Wednesday November 5th for the continuation of the campaign. Anyone have input for that. I know we've been away from this for a while.

Posted by: redeadlink Oct 28 2014, 11:43 PM
i'm down for whatever.

Posted by: Chronocide Oct 29 2014, 01:15 PM
Yay Robots are back.

Posted by: trick Oct 30 2014, 07:55 AM
Nov 5 works for me!

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Nov 3 2014, 08:00 PM
Ok, well as long as Greg knows about this we are good to go. No supper this time round unfortunately. Show up at 7:00. I hope we can be done by 10-10:30.

Posted by: redeadlink Nov 4 2014, 01:25 AM
i can let greg know

Posted by: Chronocide Nov 11 2014, 03:22 PM
Just confirming next session is tomorrow (Wed Nov 12) at Jimbo's?

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Nov 12 2014, 08:34 AM
Yes. Start time 7:30

Posted by: trick Nov 12 2014, 03:13 PM
I won't be carpooling this time, but I'll be there.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Nov 19 2014, 08:20 AM
7:30 today guys

Posted by: trick Nov 19 2014, 10:16 AM
Chrono won't be at our house tonight, but if anyone else wants to carpool, meet at my place at 7:00.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Nov 19 2014, 06:31 PM
redead will be coming straight from work

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Nov 24 2014, 08:13 AM
My sister is coming into town from Calgary this week, and the only day that works for the family is Wednesday. I'm going to have to postpone the next session until next week Wednesday, sorry guys.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Dec 2 2014, 11:31 PM
We are a go tomorrow at 7:30, my place. In a couple weeks ken will no longer be working the late shift and we can start earlier for the last few sessions.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 2 2015, 12:44 AM
so when does this start up again? I'm looking forward to finishing this arc

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 2 2015, 06:50 PM
If it works for everyone we can start up again on the 7th.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 2 2015, 07:14 PM
i'm cool with this.

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 4 2015, 06:42 PM
Sounds good to me

Posted by: Greg Jan 4 2015, 06:45 PM
Also cool with this.

Posted by: trick Jan 4 2015, 07:13 PM
I approve

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 4 2015, 07:56 PM
Redeadlink can you bring the third game of thrones book.
Greg can you bring your art book.

Thanks.

Posted by: redeadlink Jan 4 2015, 08:28 PM
yeah, i can do that.

Posted by: trick Jan 7 2015, 12:05 PM
I assume we are meeting at 7:30 PM?

Posted by: trick Jan 10 2015, 03:28 PM
Are we doing this on the 14th again?

Posted by: Chronocide Jan 10 2015, 10:05 PM
I'm hoping we are.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Jan 14 2015, 08:30 AM
Sorry, yes! Tonight 7:30

Posted by: Greg Jan 14 2015, 09:16 AM
Got it. Tonight at 7:30

Posted by: Chronocide Mar 10 2015, 02:35 PM
So I have had some ideas of how the giant robots campaign could continue.
I was waiting for Jimbo to post an epilogue but that hasn't happened.

The basic idea is for the campaign to take place 5-8 years in the future.
The dominant conflict would be between mankind and the ghosts.
Other internal conflicts between the three main factions:
Luddite faction that wants to shun all technology and hide.
Ascension faction that wants to accept assimilation with the Ghosts.
Humanist faction that wants to fight and defend humanity as it is.

I would have some questions for people before I ran this though

1) How much do you want taking place in space?
2) How much combat do you want how much talky talky?
3) How much do you want to play or original character?
4) How much do you want to have current characters continue to exist?
5) How much do you want to fill in the skipped years? How much left unsaid?

Other stuff:
The campaign would still be run on Wednesdays probably at my place.
It would probably be shorter than the original.
Characters would be rescaled to starting out at level 1

Posted by: trick Mar 12 2015, 11:23 AM
I would be interested, but generally my life is pretty busy right now. I'll have to see how things go.

Posted by: Greg Mar 12 2015, 12:32 PM
1) How much do you want taking place in space?
Space is cool, as long as you are creative with space terrain.

2) How much combat do you want how much talky talky?
As much as you feel is apriority

3) How much do you want to play or original character?
If it is possible to come back as my original character through the introduction of a new renegade ghost faction, that would be cool. Maybe pose the question of whether I actually am rebellious, or if I'm programmed to think I am as a form of sleeper agent.

4) How much do you want to have current characters continue to exist?
Even if Wildcard can't come back as a player character, it would be cool to see our characters as Veteran NPC’S or even villains.

5) How much do you want to fill in the skipped years? How much left unsaid?

Have important political stuff explained, but save revealing cool things about old characters for fun reveals, unless it's common knowledge.

Posted by: Jimbo Cactaur Mar 14 2015, 11:41 PM
Epilogue forthcoming.

It should leave a lot of options open.
